One Wonderful One Weird Shoe Story, Italy-Style

One Weird Shoe just got a One Million Times better thanks to this submission from Venice Italy by Jessica Grammer and her friend Shelley.

European Cinderella Story by Jessica Grammer

I had to share this picture and the background of it.

My best friend Shelly and I just went to Venice together for a wedding and vacation. We experienced "Venice night life" and on the way home Shelly slipped and fell into the Grand Canal.... Fortunately we got Shelly out, but not so lucky was one of her fancy shoes as it streamed down the classic love canal of Venice, Italy. We decided to leave the shoe, seeing there was no reason to bring back just one shoe.

Shelly and I headed home trying to make laughter of the situation. We slipped into our pj's and headed to bed. The next day, our family walked in from a morning stroll along the narrow streets and asked Shelly, with much confusion, if that was her high heel shoe outside near the water.

Shocked that the shoe was still there, Shelly nodded her head as a burst of giggles overcame her. We both laughed hysterically while we tried to find words to explain why one of her shoes was just laying on the edge of Venice, the same city that is visited by nearly 100,000 tourists each day.

Our family said tourists were snapping pictures of the shoe left and right. Surprisingly the shoe remained in that same location the entire next day. We went to check on the shoe the next day, but the waves were so intense that it captured the other heel. Maybe the shoes will meet each other at last... or a prince could have taken it.

Some may never know why the shoe was there or its signifigance, but maybe by me sharing this story they will laugh and finally know.

Shelly and I call it our Italian Cinderella story.
